About Thousand Pillar Temple

The Thousand Pillar Temple, also known as Rudreshwara Temple, is located in Hanamkonda, near Warangal in Telangana. Built in the 12th century by the Kakatiya dynasty, this temple is one of the finest examples of early Kakatiya architecture. It is dedicated to three deities—Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Surya—making it a rare and unique example of religious unity in design.

Because of its rich cultural and architectural significance, this site is often included in many Andhra Pradesh tour packages. The temple is famous not just for its spiritual importance but also for its impressive craftsmanship. Every pillar, wall, and sculpture in the temple is decorated with beautiful carvings, telling stories from mythology and showcasing the skills of ancient artisans.

Even though it’s called the “Thousand Pillar Temple,” the number of pillars is symbolic rather than exact. The name reflects the detailed and intricate work seen throughout the structure. The temple also includes a large Nandi statue carved from a single black stone, which continues to attract visitors from around the world.
