Tehri Lake is one of India’s largest man-made lakes, created by the massive Tehri Dam in Uttarakhand. The story of this lake is quite interesting – it came into existence when the old Tehri town was submerged to build the Tehri Dam in 2006. The dam, standing tall at 260 meters, is Asia’s highest dam and has turned the area into a stunning water body surrounded by hills.
For anyone planning their Uttarakhand Yatra packages, you can easily add Tehri Lake to your journey. The lake has completely changed how this area looks and feels. The lake isn’t just pretty to look at – it’s become a hot spot for water sports and activities. Local families have found new ways to earn by offering boat rides and running small restaurants around the lake.
Lake viewing is open 24/7 and free. Water sports operate from 9 am to 5 pm daily. Activities cost: Jet skiing (INR 1000/15 mins), Banana boat (INR 300/person), Kayaking (INR 500/hour). Boating charges: INR 750 for a 30-minute ride for 4 people.
