About Sinharaja Forest Reserve

Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Sri Lanka, is the last remaining primary tropical rainforest in the country, renowned for its unique ecosystem and high rate of endemic flora and fauna. Stretching across the southwestern wet zone, this dense rainforest features tall canopy trees, flowing streams, and rich wildlife that thrives under its shaded green cover. It is recognized as both a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site, making it one of the most protected natural environments on the island.

Most areas of Sinharaja are only accessible on foot, which makes the journey into the forest feel like exploring a mysterious world. The trails are beautifully scenic, filled with exotic plants, colorful birds, insects, and playful monkeys. Many Sri Lanka tour packages include guided nature walks here, offering travelers a deep dive into the heart of Sri Lanka’s tropical wilderness.
