Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, stands as one of the world’s most successful and oldest orangutan sanctuaries. Since 1964, this 43-square-kilometer sanctuary has been giving orphaned and injured orangutans a second chance at life. Here, these incredible red-haired apes learn essential survival skills before being released back into the wild.
The sanctuary’s natural rainforest setting provides the perfect training ground for these endangered creatures. Check out our Malaysia Tour Packages, which offer amazing wildlife experiences where you can watch orangutans swinging freely through the trees during feeding times. The sanctuary also helps other wildlife like sun bears, gibbons, and various bird species. You’re not just visiting a tourist spot; you’re supporting a real conservation effort that’s been protecting these amazing creatures for nearly 60 years.
The centre is open daily from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Entry fees for international visitors are approximately ₹700 for adults and ₹350 for children. Camera permits cost around ₹235 extra.
