About Ramnagar Fort

Ramnagar Fort is located on the eastern bank of the Ganges River, just opposite the popular Tulsi Ghat in Varanasi. It was built in the 18th century by Kashi Naresh Raja Balwant Singh, and it served as the royal residence of the rulers of Banaras. Made from creamy-colored sandstone, the fort has a mix of Mughal and Indian architectural styles.

Many travellers now include Ramnagar Fort in their Varanasi tour packages for its unique appeal. Away from the busy ghats and temples, the fort provides a peaceful, historical escape. Inside, you’ll find a museum, ancient temples, courtyards, and beautiful balconies that overlook the river.

While the fort may look slightly worn with age, that’s what gives it character. It tells a story of kings, festivals, and traditions that still continue today.
