Lhalung Monastery, also known as the Golden Temple, is situated peacefully at an altitude of 12,000 feet in Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh. This ancient Buddhist monastery, dating back to the 10th century, is one of the oldest and most sacred monasteries in the region. The name Lhalung means ‘land of the gods,’ and true to its name, the monastery feels like a divine sanctuary amidst the stark mountain landscape. The main prayer hall has beautiful murals and ancient artifacts that have survived centuries, so it’s a Buddhist art and culture.
Many popular Spiti Valley Packages don’t include Lhalung Monastery in their itinerary because of its location in the remote region. The local people say that the monastery was built in just one night, and while that might be a legend, the spiritual energy of this place certainly makes you believe in miracles.
