About Gue Mummy Stupa

The Gue Mummy Stupa is located in a remote village called Gue, situated about 40 kilometres from Kaza, the main town of Spiti Valley. This stupa is famous for housing the mummified remains of a Buddhist Lama who lived and passed away around 500 years ago. The mummy is remarkably well-preserved, thanks to the dry and cold climate of the region, which naturally preserved the body over time. It offers visitors an intriguing blend of spirituality, culture, and history while exploring Spiti Valley packages.

The Gue Mummy is displayed inside a small monastery, which was built around the stupa to protect and honour the sacred remains. This mummified monk is believed to have been a lama from Tibet who travelled to the Spiti Valley, where he passed away. Local legends suggest that he was a revered monk, and his body was intentionally preserved to continue his spiritual influence after death. Over the years, this site has attracted many pilgrims, tourists, and historians, all drawn to its cultural and spiritual significance.

Despite being a remote location, the Gue Mummy Stupa has become one of the must-visit sites in Spiti Valley, offering a unique and eerie glimpse into the spiritual traditions of the region.
