Located in Nepal’s lowlands, Chitwan National Park is a stunning example of nature’s raw beauty. This UNESCO World Heritage site is home to some of the rarest animals on Earth, including the one-horned rhinoceros and the Bengal tiger. What makes this park special is its journey from a royal hunting ground in the 1800s to becoming Nepal’s first national park in 1973.
Here’s something interesting – the park got its name from the words ‘Chitta’ meaning heart and ‘van’ meaning jungle. Local stories tell us how kings and their guests would hunt here, taking down 120 tigers and 38 rhinos in a single hunt! But times have changed, and now these amazing animals are protected. If you’re planning to explore Nepal, many Nepal Tour Packages include Chitwan as a must-visit spot. The park has helped bring back the one-horned rhino from near extinction to over 600 today – truly a success story worth celebrating!
