Elephant Falls, located just 12 km from Shillong in Meghalaya, is one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Northeast India. Named by the British after a rock resembling an elephant (now destroyed), the falls cascade in three distinct steps, each offering a unique view. The first fall is tucked between dense trees, the second is a wider and more prominent fall, and the third is the most spectacular, gushing down with full force. Surrounded by lush greenery and accessible via a short stairway, it’s a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers. The sound of water amidst the tranquil forest adds to its charm. Visitors often stop here en route to Cherrapunji. Elephant Falls is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking natural beauty and a peaceful escape near Shillong.
